Portobanco's Restaurant: Reviews & Ratings
Hidden gem but if you’re looking for Nicaraguan food, here it is authentic and tasty! Parking around restaurant can be limited, but there is valet service for under $10. We usually order a parrillada for two (which may be enough for 4 actually), with a Toña or the cacao!
When you try their food, you’ll feel at home! I absolutely loved the taste of this restaurant. It’s amazingly authentic and upscaled. It made me really happy to visit them. The place is decorated with various Nicaraguan symbols and has a family atmosphere. The food was delicious and has a good value. Big portions, small price. The menu has a whole lot of options and the patio area is just fantastic. It was full. So freaking full on a Sunday’s afternoon. The food took more than 35 minutes since the moment we ordered. Service is really slow and they barely check on you if you need something. Besides the fact that they’re so understaff. This place is great.
I’ve been here several times with family and friends. To be honest the food is always good . Service wise, I can agree with some of the negative comments. My husband and I have experienced a girl server who was not very welcoming, she seemed like she did not want to work and we were scared to ask her anything, almost like if we were doing her a favor. Now, we’ve also had outstanding servers, completely opposite. I think we would go more often if we were guaranteed the same service everything but looks like this is not the case. It could be just a retraining matter but food would recommend.
It is a really good place, I love the service, especially Christian, the waiter that helps us . He was polite, friendly, respectful, and really pay attention to details. I love the place.
It was my first time at Portobanco Restaurant, first thing I noticed was the parking, the street parking is nonexistent and their parking lot is small, they provide Valet parking which cost $ 8.00 dollars. Once inside de restaurant the hostess was promptly to find us a table, the decor is simple few paintings of nicaraguan culture. The server showed up promptly, we ordered sopa de mondongo, it was enough for two people to share. The soup taste kind of sweet, the cook should've add a bit of more salt,l and adding more veggies to absorb the sweetness from the corn. Also the soup was served cold. I was surprised by a gentleman going around taking pictures offering them free but then he would return a few minutes later selling them each one for $20 dollars, I thought that wasn't a good business practice since nowadays we all use our cell phones if we want to take pictures anywhere for the memories. I decline the offer though. Overall Portobanco experience wasn't a good one to remember. The food could be prepared more to taste like real nicaraguan food.
The food is only surpassed by the service! Don Heberto , Fabiola, Mayra, and Jayson... treat you like esteemed family members. I travel all over the US and find myself lucky whenever I find Nicaraguan food. This is the best Nicaraguan food - outside Nicaragua - I’ve ever had. The menu is complete, the flavors are fresh and authentic, and the service is warm and efficient. If you are looking for some great Nicaraguan food, nice environment, and A+ service... give Portobanco’s a chance... you won’t be disappointed! PS: We came in twice and tried Tostones, Baho, Quesillos, Tajadas, Empanaditas de maduro, Nacatamal, and Buñuelos - all amazing!
I was so excited to find this place in LA! The fresco de cacao tastes just like it would in Nicaragua. The queso frito was to die for and the servers were so attentive and kind.
The food is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Have been eating here for a couple of years. Sure, the price is a bit pricey for the type of food served, but man is it worth it! Their "Fritanga" plate is tasty (beef, chorizo and chicken breast) with salad and casamiento plus chips! If you want something unique, try the "salpicon" And of course, try their drinks. I recommend the "cacao" or the "maracuya". Lastly, the owner is a good host and provides great service! Would give 10 stars if possible.
